Advanced Harmony: Wintersongs! with Emily Eagen Sundays 11:30 am - 1:00 pm: 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/22, 12/6, 12/13, 12/20 **If interested in registering, please email emily@jalopytheatre.org to get a registration code** This class is suited for singers who are comfortable singing one-on-a-part and would like a real challenge. We move fast - but it is fun! With an emphasis on duet and trio singing, this term we'll dive into repertoire that fits the coming of winter and the solstice. From Medieval carols to bluegrass hits, we'll start with intricate part learning, sight singing, and the creation of harmony parts on songs from traditional American styles and around the world. The goal of this particular round of this class will be on getting songs to a polished state so we can offer friends and family a mini concert/sharing at the end of class. Be prepared to really dig in! We'll work to get well beyond the notes themselves and deeper into the skills of singing in a small ensemble, including making a blended sound, feeling flexible with harmony parts, adding personal touches, being able to express and shape an arrangement together, and feeling confident singing in front of others in a small group. Some repertoire will be familiar and some will be a wonderful new surprise - and you might even write your own! Despite the rising costs and lower funding streams that are affecting cultural institutions, Jalopy still wants to be a home for everyone seeking to learn and develop their musical practice. Therefore, this semester, we are offering the classes based on a sliding scale, inviting each student to choose a price based on their income level. Those of you who can afford to pay more than the breakeven cost, will be making it feasible for Jalopy to give scholarships to those who cannot afford the courses. Please note that these numbers are only suggestions, and you are free to pay what feels manageable and appropriate for you based on all your life's circumstances, not just annual income.
