Dumbo Before the Bridges: Opening Reception

Dumbo Before the Bridges is an exhibit of artifacts unearthed during “HWKKP005,” Dumbo’s street reconstruction project, which broke ground in 2019 and concluded in 2025. HWKKP005 project archeologist Mark Tweedie has curated eighteen objects from the 2,771 discovered, many dating back to the early 1800s. Alongside historic photos (albeit from the 1930s) and current photographs taken this fall, this exhibit offers a peek into the industrial and home lives of Brooklynites along the waterfront–well before the bridges which so define the Dumbo of today were built. Join us for the opening night! Hear from Mark and colleagues at the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and enjoy our famous Belgian Block cakes from Dawn’s Til Dusk. Attendees are invited to join the Dumbo First Thursday Gallery Tour following these remarks; RSVP for this tour is requested . This exhibit will be on view at the Adams Street Library through February 2027.
