Events for Youth & Families: El Día de Muertos con Mexico Beyond Mariachi

Join Urban Stages and Mexico Beyond Mariachi for their Día de Muertos show, which highlights the music, dances, and stories performed and shared during this special holiday. From the ancient Mexica to the present-day Purepecha people of Michoacán, the ensemble will transport you to what these celebrations embody in Mexico today. Feel free to come in your costumes and be ready for an interactive afternoon celebrating Día de Muertos. Attendees are welcome to bring a photo of a loved one to contribute to a communal altar during the performance. Don’t worry, you’ll take the photos back home with you! RSVP is not required to attend and admission is first come, first served. Mexico Beyond Mariachi is a multicultural ensemble of professional musicians, actors, dancers, and teaching artists who perform traditional Mexican music and dance. Founded in 2005 in New York City, Mexico Beyond Mariachi quickly became a leading provider of Mexican performance and educational programs for young people and families in the New York Tri-State area. In addition to a legacy of arts-in-education offerings, Mexico Beyond Mariachi also presents its theatrical production, Trekking Mexico, which is ideal for schools and theaters seeking to introduce new audiences to Mexican culture. Events for Youth & Families programs are made possible through generous support from the Estate of Pearl S. Reuillard in memory of her parents Yetta and Louis Schwartz.
