Gabriele Leite, Fernanda da Silva and Ben Rosenblum

Guitarist Gabriele Leite and cavaquinho player Fernanda Silveira are joined by pianist Ben Rosenblum for an afternoon of Brazilian choro at Moynihan. Originating in Rio de Janeiro in the late 19th century, choro blends European dance forms with Afro-Brazilian rhythms. Often described as Brazil’s first urban popular music, choro is defined by lyrical melodies, rhythmic vitality, and conversational improvisation within elegant harmonic structures. Leite is an award-winning Brazilian classical guitarist whose virtuosic playing bridges concert repertoire and Brazil’s instrumental traditions. Silveira is a master cavaquinist rooted in choro and traditional samba, shaped by Brazil’s rodas and Carnaval ensembles. Rosenblum is an internationally touring New York-based composer, pianist, and accordionist.
