Little New-Yorkers: Coming Home: a Hopi Resistance Story
Our books this month are inspired by The Historical’s new House of Made Dawn exhibition, featuring 150 years of art by Indigenous people! When he was a child, Mavasta Honyouti’s grandfather was forced to leave his Hopi reservation home for a boarding school where he was made to turn away from his culture. But in Coming Home, we’ll learn how Mavasta’s grandfather made his way back home and never forgot his Hopi traditions. After the story, make your own carving craft inspired by Mavasta’s illustrations! Join us every Tuesday and Friday at the Museum for story time and crafts! Each class includes a special hello song, silly dances and games, a story book reading, and a craft to do after the story.
