Little New-Yorkers: to Walk the Sky: How Iroquois Steelworkers Helped Build Towering Cities

Our books this month are inspired by The Historical’s new House Made of Dawn exhibition, featuring 150 years of art by Indigenous people! For generations, Indigenous workers have built the skyscrapers of American cities, balancing on narrow steel beams among the clouds! In To Walk the Sky, written Patricia Morris Buckley and illustrated by E. B. Lewis, we’ll learn the story of these “skywalkers,” their history, bravery, and continuing legacy! After the read-aloud, make your own city skyscraper craft! Join us every Tuesday and Friday at the Museum for story time and crafts! Each class includes a special hello song, silly dances and games, a story book reading, and a craft to do after the story.
