The New York City Master Chorale, under the direction of David J. Recca, presents This Love Between Us a concert anchored by the titular work by Indian-American composer Reena Esmail, bringing together choir, Western orchestral instrumentalists, and celebrated Brooklyn Raga Massive players Neel Murgai (sitar) and Tripp Dudley (tabla). Through seven movements in English and modern and ancient Indian languages, Esmail explores themes of unity and kindness towards one another in seven major religious traditions in India: Buddhism, Sikhism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Islam. Completing the program will be Agnus Dei, an evocative work by Ukrainian composer Kuzina-Rozhdestvenska “in response to the start of the war in Ukraine and to honor the memory of its countless victims” with choir accompanied only by tubular bell.
