Summer at the Library: Urban Stages: Dance from the Diaspora (Afro Dance + Hip Hop)

This program will be in person at the Countee Cullen Library. From the percussive rhythms to the call-and-response, African culture has influenced the art form of Hip-Hop music and dance for decades. Starting off with the undulation, we explore the similar grooves of Afro Dance and Hip-Hop, and how movements we've seen connect back to this culture. We'll start off with a warm-up that ignites your energy and prepares you to learn more advanced movements you can execute on any dancefloor. Participants will learn dance and music history, techniques for improvisation, and how to bring out their ultimate performer on the dancefloor.
