Sunday Story Time: Contenders: Two Native Baseball Players, One World Series

Our books this month are inspired by The Historical’s new House Made of Dawn exhibition, featuring 150 years of art by Indigenous people! In Contenders, author Traci Sorell and illustrator Arigon Starr share the stories of John Meyers and Charles Bender. In 1911, these men became the first two Native American baseball players to face each other in the World Series. Throughout their lives, Meyers and Bender followed their dreams and broke barriers, despite the prejudice against them. After the story, make a baseball craft inspired by these athletes! Join us every Sunday in person at the Museum for story time and crafts! Each class includes a special hello song, silly dances and games, a story book reading, and a craft to do after the story.
