US 250: Trailblazers! Alexander Miles: Going UP! Inventions
Alexander Miles, the inventor of the modern marvel of the automated elevator doors, not only created a system that is still used today, but also saved lives. This engineering activity involves step-by-step instructions which include cutting, measuring, and manufacturing a sliding mechanism using very simple materials. Add your own artistic flair by adding some characters to ride inside the elevator! This program will take place indoors at West New Brighton Library. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver who must stay nearby for the duration of the program and be prepared to assist their child, as needed. Programs start on-time and late comers may not be fully accommodated due to time constraints. This activity design is made possible through a collaboration with The Bronx Children's Museum.
