Author Talk: Ellen Shapiro
Calling all history buffs in Grades 4 through 8: Come to our author talk to engage with and ponder history! Meet graphic designer and writer Ellen Shapiro, author of The Secret Buttons, a middle grade historical novel inspired by the real-life travails of her mother in Austria and England in the years leading up to WWII. The book, a gentle yet suspenseful introduction to the Holocaust, juxtaposes antisemitism and immigration with the rich culture and pastimes of the period, especially the needlework that weaves the story together and allows the young main characters to solve a very grown-up problem. Each registrant* who attends will receive a free copy of the book: please register below to reserve yours! If more than one person from your household will attend, register one person's name and include the total number of household members attending in that one registration. Please contact us for assistance or with questions. *Limit one free book per household, while supplies last.
