Ancient Playground

Museum Mile

Located right next to the Met on Fifth Avenue, this playground is designed with pyramid-style climbing structures inspired by Egyptian art. It’s fully enclosed and has separate areas for younger and older kids, which makes it easier to manage multiple ages. Open daily with set hours, so it’s not a “pop in anytime” situation.

John Jay Park Playground

This park includes a playground plus a large outdoor public pool that opens in summer. The playground itself is modern and well-maintained, and the park runs along the East River, so there’s more open space than most UES spots. The park is open daily from morning until late evening.

Carl Schurz Park Playground

East End Avenue

This park has multiple play areas and sits right along the East River promenade. It’s one of the few places on the UES where kids can run around with actual space, and there are paved paths for scooters. It’s also where Gracie Mansion is located, so it’s consistently maintained.

Andrew Haswell Green Park

FDR Drive

A smaller waterfront park along the East River Greenway with open space and seating. It’s not a playground, but it works well for walking, biking, or letting kids move around without crowds. The park was built as part of a redevelopment project and is about 2 acres in size.
